The TATA IPL is a pool of talents! To recognize that talent, the "Emerging Player of the Year" award is given to the players who excel throughout the competition each year.

The Indian Premier League's slogan is "Yatra Pratibha Avsara Prapnotihi," which translates to "Where talent meets opportunity."

Importance of Emerging Players

With each new year, a new pool of talents continues to bring their best performance, improving the overall game. The emerging players are essential because they give the league a fresh perspective and energy. The new faces and energy are something to witness in the IPL season! 

Compared to the international standard, emerging players are affordable even for the IPL franchise, which helps them balance their budgets. These talents deserve recognition, and IPL gives it to them! They get to showcase their skills on a global scale. 

Criteria for Selection

Not everyone can be an emerging player in the IPL. Each player must meet a few criteria to be considered for the award. Here are the criteria: 

The player should be born after 1st April 1996.

The player should not have played more than 25 IPL matches.

The player shouldn't have played more than 20 ODIs and 5 Test matches.

The player should not have won the award previously.

Role of Emerging Players in IPL

The role of emerging players in IPL cannot be understated. Not only do they bring youthful energy and enthusiasm to the game, but they also give match-winning performances that take every cricket fan by storm!

IPL Emerging Player Winners List: From 2008 to 2023

Shreevats Goswami of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clinched the inaugural Emerging Player of the Season award in IPL 2008. Rohit Sharma secured it the following year with Deccan Chargers. Mustafizur Rahman made history as the only foreign player to win it in 2016.

While the 'Emerginig Palyers of 2024' title is yet to be claimed, we see many promising faces that could meet the criteria. 

Here are 7 exciting young Indian players to watch out for in the tournament. 

Kumar Kushagra 

For a whopping amount of ₹7.2 crore, Delhi Capitals (DC) has got wicketkeeper-batter Kuman Kushagra. He is a player from Jharkhand who will be Delhi Captial's backup for Rishb Pant, who recently was declared completely fit by the BCCI after surgery. 

There is a high chance that Kumar Kushagra will play as a specialized batter if he keeps up with his promising performance. 

Abhishek Sharma 

Abhishek Sharma is a promising player picked by Delhi Daredevils (present Delhi Capitals) in 2018 when he was the promising player of the Indian U19 team that bagged the world champions title. 

The following year, Abhishek was a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He will be playing for SRH in IPL 2024. Many cricket fans are eager to watch for Abhishek's performance this season. 

Robin Minz

Robin Minz was purchased by Gujarat TItant (GT) for ₹3.6 crores. Robin has not yet played first-class cricket but has done well in younger age groups for Jharkhand. 

He is a wicket-keeper, left-handed batter, and slow left-arm Orthodox bowler. Robin will play as an all-rounder for GT in TATA IPL 2024.  

Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh is another promising Tamil Nadu batter on whom the Gujarat Titans (GT) spent ₹7.4 crore to add to their time. Shahrukh has been a much-talked-about name in the IPL.

With a score of 426 runs in 33 matches, the player earlier played for Punjab Kings (PK). With Hardik no longer being the captain of GT, Khan is expected to complete the role of a finisher. 

Yash Dayal

Yash has been the famous talk for his last over against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where Rinku Singh hit him with 5 consecutive sixes to win a thrilling game against the Gujarat Titans (GT). 

Yash, who couldn't deliver after this game, was let go by Gujarat. For IPL 2024, the Royal Challengers Bangalore team bought the left-handed pacer for ₹5 crores, showing faith in his capabilities and expecting him to perform better. 

Suyash Sharma

With his promising performance in IPL 2023, Suyash Sharma is a promising player who has the probability of becoming the emerging player of this season. Suyash is a leg-spinner from Delhi Capitals (DC) who bought him for ₹20 lakhs in IPL 2023. Suyash picked up 3 wicket debuts against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). 

Mohsin Khan

Mohsin earned fame when he performed incredibly well in his first IPL season with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2022, where he was bought at the base price. 

After claiming 14 wickets in 9 games initially, Khan encountered injuries the following season, managing just 3 wickets in 5 matches. Keep an eye on this left-arm pacer in the upcoming matches.
